About the Barfords
Information about Barford St John and St Michael, and new villagers Welcome Pack.
The villages of Barford St John and St Michael lie in the valley of the River Swere, between Bloxham and Deddington.
Barford St John is the small village on the north bank of the River Swere and is about 5 miles south of Banbury. There are 22 houses and one church.
In the Middle Ages it was sometimes called Little Barford to distinguish it from the larger village of Barford St Michael on the opposite side of the River Swere.
Barford St Michael lies on the opposite bank. There are 250 houses, one church, one pub – The George Inn, and a village hall (weekly post office every Thursday morning in the hall). .
Children attend school in Deddington, Bloxham and Banbury.
